What is Zi Wei Dou Shu?

Zi Wei Dou Shu (often translated as Purple Star Astrology) is a highly intricate Chinese astrological system. It is said to have been created by the legendary Taoist sage Chen Xiyi during the transition from the Tang to the Song dynasties (around the 10th century).

The name is deeply symbolic: "Zi Wei" refers to the Purple Star (the North Star), which represents the Emperor; "Dou" refers to the constellations (like the Big Dipper); and "Shu" means the calculation of destiny. It involves mapping out a Destiny Chart where over a hundred virtual stars are mathematically placed into 12 distinct Palaces based on your birth date and exact birth time.

For centuries, it was kept secret exclusively for the Imperial Court, which is why it historically lacked the widespread fame of Bazi (Four Pillars). However, in modern times, it has exploded in popularity across Taiwan and Hong Kong. Today, many consider it to be the most accurate astrology system for predicting specific, concrete events—such as exact career paths, marital issues, and health vulnerabilities.
