The Useful God (Yongshen) is perhaps the most critical concept for actively improving your life using Bazi. Almost no one is born with a perfectly balanced chart; most people have too much of one element and too little of another, causing stress, bad luck, or illness.
The Useful God is the specific element (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, or Water) needed to cure the 'disease' or imbalance in your chart. For example, if your chart is freezing cold (born in winter with lots of Water), your Useful God is Fire to warm it up. If your Day Master is extremely weak, your Useful God is the element that nourishes it.
Once you know your Useful God, you can intentionally incorporate it into your life. You can wear its colors, pursue industries related to it, or spend time with people whose charts contain an abundance of it. Activating your Useful God is the ultimate key to success.
